What Are Dermal Fillers And Injectables?

Dermal fillers and injectables are minimally invasive treatments that help with lines, wrinkles, and poor facial contours. The products contain active ingredients that work with your body to address the underlying cause of the concerns. Many of the products contain hyaluronic acid that binds with water to add volume. Others work on dynamic wrinkles that are caused by muscle contractions.

What Dermal Fillers And Injectables Are Offered

Botox®
Manufactured under the name botulinum toxin type A, Botox® is a nonsurgical anti-aging skin rejuvenation procedure that treats facial wrinkles in the forehead region and around the eyes (crow’s feet) without surgery. By temporarily relaxing the muscles residing under the skin, the surface appears smoother, softer, and younger. Additionally, Botox® can help treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). It works by blocking the nerves responsible for activating the sweat glands in your underarms.

Voluma®

Voluma® XC is a relatively new hyaluronic that is approved for augmentation of the cheek area and as a slight mid-face lift. It is different from the other hyaluronics in the Allergan family not only in the lifting effect, but also in the fact that it lasts approximately two years.

Belotero®
Nasolabial folds are some of the most obvious signs of aging. These wrinkles and creases develop from the outside of the nostrils and curve downward to the corners of the mouth. They are caused by reduced levels of hyaluronic acid in the skin that occurs as a natural part of the aging process. Belotero® is an injectable treatment that restores the hyaluronic acid that your skin is missing.

Restylane®
Restylane® is an injectable dermal filler used to add volume, smoothen out wrinkles and creases on the face, and rejuvenate the nasolabial folds and the lips to produce a youthful effect.

The main ingredient in all three Restylane® products, hyaluronic acid, is a substance that is naturally found in the body to retain moisture and improve elasticity in the skin. Because this product does not spread from the injection site, it is perfect for distinct and precise lines. It is used to fill in laugh lines and to fill in the lips.

Sculptra®
Sculptra® is an FDA-approved injectable filler that contains poly-L-lactic acid (commonly known as PLLA). PLLA stimulates collagen growth in the areas where it is administered, replenishing volume and making it an effective treatment for wrinkles and facial folds.

PRP injections
PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, contains growth factors that help your body develop new cells. Although the exact mechanism of PRP is not well understood, the medical community has used the technology to improve healing and recovery in a variety of situations.

Juvéderm®
Juvéderm® is comprised of hyaluronic acid, a natural and valuable component found in the skin that depletes as we age. Both Juvéderm® and Juvéderm® Plus add volume where this depletion is noticeable. Juvéderm® is primarily used for the correction of mild to moderate to facial wrinkles and folds. It is commonly injected around the mouth, nasolabial folds, lips, and judiciously along the infraorbital rim. Juvedérm® Plus is a slightly thicker, non-animal derived hyaluronic gel that is used for slightly deeper lines and wrinkles than Juvéderm® XC and Restylane®. Juvéderm® Plus is also commonly used for the restoration of volume.

Dysport®
Similar to the well-known Botox®, Dysport® is an FDA-approved injectable neurotoxin that seeks to treat moderate to severe frown lines and creases between the brows. Dysport® is proven to create a smoother and softer face without causing it to “freeze.” In just a 10 to 20 minute treatment,

Xeomin®

Xeomin® is an injectable treatment for lines and wrinkles that are caused by contractions of the muscles when you use facial expressions. These wrinkles are unique because they do not respond to other types of injectable treatments. Dr. Rothaus may recommend Xeomin® for:
Crow’s feet
Lines that cross the forehead
Vertical lines between the eyes
